Sarasota Pool Cleaning After Hurricane Milton

Sarasota Pool Cleaning After Hurricane Milton - Bella Pool and Spa of Sarasota

As a locally based and family-owned Sarasota pool service, we are heartbroken by the destruction caused throughout Sarasota-Bradenton by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. We spend time on people’s property every single day, getting to know our neighbors right in their own backyards. We know these storms hit so many people right where they live.

When addressing property damage in the wake of natural disasters, your pool may be way down your list of priorities—especially if your home and possessions themselves suffered damage, too.

But allowing your pool water to fester in dirty, unbalanced state only maintains an unsafe situation—both for your pool itself and for humans and animals around. You don’t want to postpone pool cleanup and repair. Nor do you want to trust your pool—not to mention access to your property—to some stranger going door-to-door after a storm.

The good news is, Bella Pool and Spa is a trustworthy, worry-free pool service Sarasota can count on. And in times like these, we are happy to alleviate as much worry as possible.

Pool Safety After a Hurricane

Never enter a pool after a hurricane until it’s been properly inspected, cleaned, and balanced.

  • Flood waters can introduce harmful chemicals to your pool.
  • Damage to pool equipment/structure runs the risk of introducing live electricity to the water.
  • Large debris creates risk for drowning or injury.
  • Dirty pool water can host dangerous bacterial growth.
  • Dark/cloudy pool water can hide unknown risks.

Basic Pool Issues Related to Hurricanes include excess water from rainfall and flooding, as well as organic and inorganic debris. In short, your pool water is dirty and disgusting.

As we’ve discussed many times before, a dirty pool never fixes itself; in fact, it only gets exponentially worse. A dirty pool unbalances your pool chemicals, which then allows for mold and mildew growth, making the pool even dirtier, and so on and so forth.

In no time the growth will have spread to the walls and other structures, as well as drains and valves. These lead to major aesthetic issues like staining, but they can also infiltrate your pool’s electric infrastructure, causing much bigger—and more expensive—problems in a matter of days.

Sarasota Pool Cleaning Service after a storm starts with a free estimate and an assessment of your pool’s condition. From there, we will have a better idea of how much needs to be done. But in most cases in which a pool has sat uncleaned for at least several days, restoration to a healthy swimming condition will look something like this:

Debris removal: In many cases, this is a much harder and more dangerous task than the typical skimming and basket-cleaning. Our Sarasota Certified Pool Operators (CPO) have the tools, strength, and knowledge needed to safely remove large objects like branches, furniture, and structural debris from the water, without harming themselves or your pool.

Vacuuming: Once the large debris is removed, vacuuming will pick up dirt and other small detritus that’s sunk to the pool floor. (This also ensures that the debris doesn’t get stirred up and wind up in your filter.)

Shocking: Shocking a pool after a storm is almost always necessary. This high dose of chlorine ensures that everything organic in the water is killed, so that it can’t keep growing.

Chemical balancing: Once all of the dangerous elements have been removed from the pool, we can begin restoring the chemicals to a balanced state that will maintain healthy swimming conditions.Equipment inspection: Lastly, we will thoroughly inspect all of your pool’s equipment, especially electrical and mechanical elements, as well as filters, to see if any further repair is needed.
