Sarasota Pool and Screen Powerwashing for a Healthy Pool Environment

Pool stains happen. Dirt, dust, mold, mildew, pollen and other detritus are widespread in Florida. There’s no keeping them out. But a skilled pool maintenance company can keep these stains and contaminants at bay.

In southwest Florida, our pools get used year-round. But as we charge into the summer of 2023, we’re looking at months and months of potentially daily pool use. And not only do we want our pools to shine for ourselves and our guests, but we also want them safe and healthy.

Bella Pool and Spa of Sarasota specializes in cleaning and maintaining pools in our southwest Florida environment. And after more than 10 years serving Sarasota-Manatee, we have in-depth knowledge of how techniques like powerwashing (aka pressure washing) and softwashing can not only clean your pool and surrounding area, but also keep it cleaner and healthier for longer in between service visits.

Does Powerwashing/Pressure Washing/Softwashing Work for Pool Areas?

Powerwashing and softwashing both use water as well as cleaning solutions to remove stains from a variety of surfaces.

In the hands of a trained expert, powerwashing and/or softwashing can be used to clean most surfaces in and around your pool, including:

  • Pool bottom and sides (when drained)
  • Tile
  • Pool deck
  • Pavers
  • Pool frames
  • Pool screens
  • Pool cages

A pool maintenance expert will know what technique, equipment and cleaning solutions to use on which surfaces in order to achieve the cleanest results without damaging the materials or harming the surrounding environment.

What is Powerwashing?

Powerwashing or pressure washing uses a highly pressurized, highly focused stream of water to remove stains and contaminants from various surfaces. It works through the abrasiveness of the water pressure as well as (in some cases) heated water and cleaning solutions added to the stream.

A pressure-wash stream can reach more than 3,000 PSI. This strength makes it highly effective against stubborn stains, but powerwashing can also be extremely harmful if directed at people or animals. It’s often recommended that powerwashing equipment only be operated by trained professionals.

What is Softwashing?

Softwashing utilizes much lower water pressure in combination with soaps and/or disinfectants to wash away contaminants. While softwashing can be performed with a power washer or power-washing equipment, the gentler softwash can be used on materials that may scratch, chip, or otherwise be damaged by a high-pressure powerwashing stream.

How Do Powerwashing and Softwashing Contribute to a Healthy Pool?

As important as it is to maintain your pool’s chemical balance, your pool will only ever be as healthy as its surrounding areas.

  • Your pool’s chemicals face an uphill battle if mold and algae deposits remain on its tiles.
  • Cleaning your pool’s surface doesn’t last long if your dirty screen continues to deposit plant matter, dust and pollen onto the water.
  • Mildew on and in your pool deck and its seems will find its way into your pool, whether from runoff or being tracked in by humans and pets.

Not only do these issues result in tough, unsightly stains, but they pose a constant threat to your pool’s health.

When you remove the stains, you pool will look nicer in that moment. But it will also stay cleaner and healthier for longer, since it’s not having to constantly fight against those contaminants.
